Careers, Careers, Careers...hmm.

Hey All!

I had to put this up for everyone...I am thinking I'll be the voice of career news for u guys on this blog lol. I got another one (site) that has to do with career stuff. Truth is, there is so much stuff in this area, I just gave the general link - you can search for more specifics.

Those interested in the game industry, look into the specialized articles, "The First Step: Getting A Game Industry Job".

Ear Modeling Tutorial

Okay, so for those of you modeling humans, I found an ear tutorial that looks pretty cool. It's not incredibly detailed in the way of written instructions, but it's got lots of pictures, and it doesn't seem extremely difficult to follow.
Enjoy!

New wave in animation...

Hey guys, James here.
this isn't a tutorial really, just was reading this article and as I know alot of you are interested in working on modeling and animation for the gaming industry, I figured you should see this. It's an article posted on IGN's PS3 satellite site, but this is technology that isn't PS3 specific. There's a streaming video in the middle of this document about the Euphoria animation engine that's been developed and a new way of building bones into the face for really natural facial expressions and lip-snyching. here's the link:

Lava Carpet

Hey, remember those days when you used to pretend that the carpet was lava, so you jumped from couch to couch for hours on end? Well now you can make a lava carpet for real! Here's a tutorial that goes through how to use a lava shader mostly using the material nodes inside the hypershade. It gets kind of crazy with all the connecting nodes, but there are lots of pictures, and it looks pretty easy to follow. The end result is really cool.

The Hoofed Freak Man

Hello All,

I put this link on the title itself, but if it doesn't work then paste this in your window

http://staff.ci.qut.edu.au/~barkerc/Final%20PAN%20website/panindex.htm

This tutorial is in the spirit of character modeling and while I did not myself use all of it I did refer to some of its parts in set up of a character a while back. I gave up on it then due to some reason or another but I think that the tutorial was a very good complete lesson for allowing one to set up the modeling of a character with bone structure and muscle structure intact. Happy modeling!

Glass Shader

Hey guys. I know how much we all love cool shaders and textures and what not, so I found a really cool glass shader that you can download, complete with a tutorial to show you how to use it. The tutorial starts by showing you how to make a wine glass by making a curve and revolving it. Then it shows you how to detach the inside of the wine glass and loft some curves to make the top surface of the wine. After that he shows you the settings he uses for the glass shader, like color, attenuation, and refraction index. It has a really beautiful result.

Enjoy!

gewd shtuff on one of dose tuts!

i found out looking in one of those dynamics tutorials the coach gave us w/ the gnomon particle tut's. the smallest of the 3 is a tutorial that covers all aspects of the fields to add to particle systems. it goes through each field, ie. vortex, gravity, etc. , it goes through and shows you exactly how to use the nodes for each of them. it's really informative. i know this isn't anything new, but i know w/ all the work we all have, it's hard to really look at all the tutorials thouroghly. well have fun.

Maya Terrain Tutorial

Hello again Class,

So I used this pretty nice tutorial for making the landscape in my latest playblast for assignment 3. This tutorial has a pretty good layout for making a nice CG nature landscape and the link can be found here:

CG Nature

If that doesn't work try this link and paste it into your browser:

The only gripe I have with this tutorial is that he never actually tells you where some of the tools are to accomplish some of the tasks, so you kind of have to look around for them. For reference, some pointers to add: In order to do a smooth mentioned on page 1, just go to the Polygon>Smooth(Maya 7), or its under Mesh>Smooth(Maya 8). The 3d paint tool can be accessed by going to the rendering menu and then going to Texturing>3d Paint tool. The tutorial shows you how to set up some clouds, fog, trees, grass and land. It really is quite helpful to set things for an outdoor scene.

Have fun!
