Sophie Gateau

Hi Everyone. I'd like to post a link to this video, Sophie Gateau:Boa on the Lumen Eclipse site(Lumen Eclipse is a public art project displayed in Harvard Square, Cambridge MA).

The piece was produced a few years back, in 2004. Its a beautiful work that plays on the notion of animation and the hidden foundation of the cube. Here the cube becomes a physical (almost child-like) block that has video mapped on the faces. The video has imagery of average people which - while the blocks get moved around - can be configured in a seemingly infinite amount and variety of ways.

Whether its in Maya, I'm not absolutely sure. But there is definitely a creatively executed animated component to this film.

This is my favorite 3D animation movie. It was made in Maya as the masters thesis of a student at The School of Visual Arts getting an MFA Computer Art, in New York City. Many of you may have already seen it. It's a good benchmark to strive for. It's also a nice simple yet complex story that people can identify with. enjoy!

Creative Cow Maya Forums

This is a pretty popular digital media community that I have been lurking through for the past few years for thier great tutorials. They cover a lot of programs, Maya included. They have a tutorial section, but another great resource is the forums which are easily searchable.

The forums sections always have an answer to my question when working with After Effects or Final Cut and it is a pretty active community so if you have a question that you cant find an answer to - chances are the someone in the forums will be able to help you out.

super good times
